Who are the adult staff members?

Although former Marines lead the program, our staff is composed of volunteers (as not paid a dime) from different professions. The staff is challenged to maintain an interesting, challenging and productive training schedule that will retain the interest of the Young Marines while achieving the objectives of the program. For more about our staff go to our "Meet the Staff" page.

How long is recuit training?

Recruit training is scheduled for 26 hours. Typically this is broken down into a couple of hours a week spread over a 13 week period. The length and schedule of recruit training is left up to the discretion of the Commanding Officer depending on the qualifications of the recruits.

How many absences are allowed during recuit training?

A recruit is allowed two (2) excused absences (approved ahead of time) during recruit training. Excessive absences may disqualify the recruit from graduation.

What is the cost?

We have an annual fee that is due the end of August of $50.00. There is no sign up or initial fee. Once training has begun, there are no refunds. If a family is experiencing financial hardship, we understand. Please contact the Commanding Officer to discuss the issue in confidence. (Been there, done that, couldn't afford the T-Shirt)

Do I have to purchase a uniform?

Unfortunately yes. Our unit is not-for-profit and we currently aren't able to furnish uniforms to the Young Marines. We are hoping that someday we will be able to. The official Young Marine Uniform is the Woodland camoflage Blouse, Trousers, black jungle boots, white T-shirt (no pockets or emblems), khaki belt (supplied by Unit) and Woodland Camoflage cover (also furnished by Unit). The cost can range from $40.00 to $200.00, depending on where you get the uniform and boots. We currently order from www.American-armynavy.com and found the cost to be about $65.00 including shipping.

What the Young Marines Program IS NOT:

The Young Marines program is NOT a summer camp, day care program or military school. If you are looking for a babysitter, don't look here... DO NOT expect the Young Marines Staff to raise your child. However, we will re-enforce standards of good behavior and academic achievement expected by any parent, as well as by society, for their child. We are not social workers, so don't expect us to work miracles in behavior improvement or behavior modification with your child.

How can I/my youth join?

If you are interested, we would like to invite you to come to one of our regular drill meetings to see what we do. Visit with the Adult staff, the young marines and parents to help decide if this is something you would like to become involved in.

How can you help?

There are many ways you can help. One, be a great supporter of your Young Marine and encourage them. Two, you can become a registered adult by going to the "Staff Room" and download the forms required. Three, you can just help out with transporting equipment, helping with the paperwork, making flyers and the list goes on. Four, we are not-for-profit and we are always looking for donations whether monetary or material. Ask any Staff member how you can help!
